We then decided to make some changes to the cap and side of the stem to save some weight.
On the new model it's got a thicker wall next to the fork (to give it some extra support and preventing it from flexing and loosing clamping power).
To compromise with the weight on the thicker wall, we dug some material out on the front and side of the stem, while stil keeping it strong on all the right places. To top it off we anodised it black.
Werner Mathee wil be testing out his new stem, while his older model will be past on to Basil for further testing.
Under wraps: The DayLife ''Elongate" hub
Elongate means long, streched out, and the shell of a Hand-grenade - exactly what this hub is. Tuff and Wide, which means, minimal flex when putting a big force onto it.
The flanges is 50 mm outside diameter (OD), angled and a little thicker than to a normal hub. Therefore when you thighten the spokes, it doesn't put unnecessary tension on the hub and rim. The thicker flanges would also prevent the hub from bending when doing grinds or landing off centre.
In order to keep the hub nice and tight, we had to put a fine-thred bolt through a hard hollow alluminum axle, with a thick sealed bearing fitted on each side.
The Basin in Somerset West, City Cycles and Boogeloos in Canal Walk will be stocking Daylife parts soon. TheRiot is also stocking these pegs.
Spockets in the works.
(Prices coming soon on all parts).
Stay Tuned.
